Forest restoration
Helping communities take part in restoring degraded forests and caring for them over time.
Community Based Organization · Kenya
Green Hearts Organization works with communities to restore ecosystems, promote sustainable practices and strengthen environmental stewardship for generations to come.
Who we are
Green Hearts Organization started in 2017 as a well-wisher group rehabilitating the environment, and was officially registered as a Community Based Organization (CBO) in 2023.
Our work covers environmental clean-ups, climate-change advocacy, tree growing, forest restoration and wildlife conservation. We invite local communities to take part in restoring degraded forests, so they share ownership of the result and the benefits of sustainable forest management.
It matters because healthy forests, clean water and resilient farms depend on one another, and the people who live beside them are the best guardians they can have.
Vision: To see a world where nature thrives and communities prosper in harmony with the environment.
What we do
Practical, community-led action for forests, climate and people.
Helping communities take part in restoring degraded forests and caring for them over time.
Growing indigenous trees, fruit trees and grafted fruit trees from seeds and seedlings.
Climate-change advocacy and adaptation, including climate-resilient farming approaches.
Environmental and wildlife conservation that protects the habitats living things depend on.
Training primary school children to become responsible environmental stewards.
School kitchen gardens and climate-resilient farming that help communities adapt.
Knowledge sharing and collaborative decision-making that keeps communities in the lead.
Clean-ups and rehabilitation work that bring damaged places back to life.
Our landscape
Green Hearts has an important connection to the Aberdare forest landscape, particularly the Wanjerere area of Kangema, Murang’a County. Here is why places like this matter to everyone downstream.
Standing forest holds soil in place and shelters countless plants, insects, birds and animals.
Mountain forests soak up rain and release it slowly, feeding the streams and rivers communities rely on.
The Aberdare ecosystem supports a rich variety of plant and animal life found in few other places.
Trees store carbon and help cool and steady local weather, supporting climate resilience.
The wider Aberdare landscape is home to wildlife, including elephants and the rare mountain bongo.
Communities around the Aberdare landscape depend on healthy land for water, farming and livelihoods.
Protecting forest edges and degraded patches keeps the whole ecosystem connected and healthy.
This section is general environmental context about the wider landscape. Green Hearts’ own documented activities are shown under Featured Projects below.
